David Rudich

Attorney / Entertainment Indusrty Advisor and Insurance Entrepreneur

David Rudich is a prominent Los Angeles attorney who has a diverse range of experience in handling legal matters in all aspects of the entertainment industry. In particular, his understanding of the music and film businesses has given him a unique perspective, which has led to a number of ground breaking deals and innovative concepts. Today his private practice serves the often eclectic needs, and protects the interests of a wide range of both corporate and individual celebrity clients spanning the entire spectrum of the entertainment industry.

Rudich graduated from the UCLA School of Law. He started his career with the prestigious law firm of Shearer, Fields, Rohner & Shearer, in entertainment, business law and litigation. He subsequently left the firm to launch his own practice.

Rudich has rendered his services in all aspects of the entertainment industry, including film, television and music and has represented may prominent recording artists, television and film stars including Motley Crue, KISS, Alice Cooper, Blind Melon, Blondie, Parliament Funkadelic, The Dramatics, Alive Entertainment, McGhee Entertainment and many others. He has represented such entertainment institutions as 20th Century Fox Film Corporation, and AIP, plus a number of other production companies, producers, writers and directors. In 1992, he was a founder, along with Graham Nash and others, of Manuscript Originals, a combined art and music-publishing firm.

Among the highlights of Rudich’s career have been the highly successful founding of Confidential Life Insurance, a venture involving Lloyds of London that he conceived and established to provide the entertainment industry--managers, agents, lawyers, business managers, record companies, music publishers and production companies in television and film in particular-- with a confidential means of insuring talent.

A more recent highlight has been Rudich’s revolutionary innovation in helping celebrity clients avoid harassment by paparazzi, or as they are now often called, stalkarazzi. Rudich realized that the paparazzis’ incentive is purely economic. A photographer or videographer can derive a lot of money from an exclusive photo or footage of a celebrity in a key moment, a marriage, divorce, pregnancy, the birth of a child a moment of tragedy or triumph, etc. If the photographer can make the celebrity react, and turn the photo attempt into a bigger story, the economic reward increases dramatically.

Rudich realized that he could eliminate the Paparazzi’s economic incentive by having his celebrity clients select their own photographers to take their pictures under circumstances they were comfortable with, and then distribute the photos directly to the print media. He understood that the paparazzi contribute to the creation of a public and media frenzy for the images. That frenzy enables Rudich to sell the photographs, and sometimes accompanying interviews to media syndicates for enormous sums of money. Rudich’s computer assisted contacts with formal and informal media syndicates and individual publications throughout the world (often created by Rudich for individual deals) enable him to put together groups of licensees and sublicenses who simultaneously bid for rights to publish and sub publish the photographs in virtually every territory of the world. The result is that the value of the photographs that Rudich deals with has skyrocketed from a few thousand dollars to millions--all to the direct benefit of Rudich’s clients.

Already, Rudich’s breakthrough has helped celebrity clients rid their lives of the suffocating harassment of paparazzi attempting to invade their privacy to photograph weddings, pregnancies, newborns, tragedies and other personal moments. Rudich is also helping the clients of other attorneys to do the same thing, when he is approached. The lucrative Pamela Anderson Lee/Tommy Lee baby picture deal and the multi million dollar Michael Jackson/Debbie Rowe baby picture deal were but two recent triumphs.
