PentaMedia Graphics pact with US Company

Chennai, April 19, 2000:  

 

PENTAMEDIA Graphics Ltd., The Chennai-based entertainment, animation and special effects company, and the US -based 3dMaxMedia Inc., a Web 3-D animation company, have formed a 50:50 joint venture which will digital animation software to produce 3-D animation movies. This technology will use technology to bring to life stars of yesteryear. The new company is yet to get a name.

Hewlett-Packard India will provide the technology - including its e-services framework and its visualise work station platform - for the projects.

The venture,s first endeavor is a 90-minute, digital animation and 3-D graphics movie which will bring alive movie personalities such as Dr. M. G. Ramachandran and Raj Kapoor and is estimated to cost between $2 million and $3 millions. It is to be launched in three languages (English, Hindi and Tamil) and is scheduled to be completed in nine months.

To insure that the recreated images of the heroes are capable of the appropriate expressions, the joint venture will also deploy the services of a dental specialist, Dr. Janaki Raman.

The English version of the movie is to be released on the Internet. The digital technology to be used will enable the movie to be shown both in theaters and over the Internet using broadband technology.

The companies are in talks with families of the artistes for permission to use the actors brand names and for revenue sharing agreements.

According to Dr, Chandrasekaran, the movie will created with "virtual artists using digital animation technologies" . With a technology park at Kelambakkam, near Chennai, the company develops multimedia and special effects content and services.

The 3dMaxMedia President and CEO, Mr. Srinivasan, said that with such technology as the joint venture would use, it would be possible to recreate scenic locales, according to him. "We might even be able to help producers with unfinished that are a result of the sudden demise of the principle actors.
