As released by HINDUSTAN TIMES Thursday, April 20, 2000 G.C. Shanhar, Chennai, April 19 IMAGINE RAJ Kapoor wielding a according and cavorting with Aishwarya Rai in rain. Or MGR landing a triple somersault, back-heeled kick on Amrish Puri. Or better still Raj Kapoor and MGR together doing a Yeh Dosti, Hum Nahi Chodenge . number. The two late super-heroes of the past have been "signed up" while other stars of the day flit around the set to add storyline. But the fact remains that a multilingual film "starring" Raj Kapoor and MGR is all set to hit the film screen in ten months. While the dead superstars , would be recreated digitally, their costars including, "a dazzling new heroine", would be real actors playing their part as they would in a normal film. Call it a wacky idea, but Chennai-based PentaMedia Graphics and Florida-based 3dMaxMedia are chipping in $3 Million to launch the world's first film with "legendary virtual artists, combining with famous live artistes. It will be a family entertainer with lots of fun, action and songs," promises Dr. V. Chandrasekaran, CEO of PentaMedia, about the 90-minute film. Both MGR and Raj Kapoor would be joint heroes. Asked if the present generation of movie-goers would vibe with Artistes of yesteryears, Mr. Srinivasan, CEO of 3dMaxMedia, was confident the the curiosity vale of the film itself would bring in audience. "Sizing up the film merely by the market evaluation of MGR would not be the right way to go about it but it is likely to sell. We will bring in advisors from Hollywood to make it a wholesome entertainer cutting across boarders." Mr. Srinivasan told a press meet. Mr. Chandrasekaran disclosed that 100 digital animators would fuse in the real actors with the digital ones against the backdrop of a Thai beach and other scenic spots. A dental specialist would be on hand to suggest facial changes to match the dialogue. The pre-production process is already on but what if the families of the two past heroes decide to exercise some kind of proprietary rights on the heroes? Indian laws are vague on the front, says Chandrasekaran, but to be on the safe side, he is in touch with the legal heirs of Raj Kapoor. MGR's wife is dead and his legal heirs were last heard squabbling. But watch out for his political heirs - they're used to extracting their pound of flesh! For More Information
