BUSINESS STANDARD NEW DELHI Thursday, March 9, 2000 3dMaxMedia, PentaMedia tie up Chennai, March 9, 2000:
3dMaxMedia, a Silicon Valley-based 3d animation start-up, and
city-based PentaMedia Graphics will be setting up a production facility
catering to the entertainment industry involving an investment of over
$5 million. Srini Vasan, founder and president, 3dMaxMedia said, “An MoU
has been signed between 3dMaxMedia and PentaMedia to establish the facility.” The facility is to be located in one of the three southern
states – Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, or Andhra Pradesh. Set up in 1999, 3dMaxMedia is engaged in developing total,
interactive 3D animation products and services which are media and e-commerce
focused. The start-up is also in the process of commissioning a global
firm to identify strategic media companies and portals as potential
partners for different markets. “We
will also be looking at acquisitions,” Srini Vasan said. 3dMaxMedia will be looking to fund these projects through a
combination of internal accruals and an IPO either in the US or in India. Besides developing content for the Indian, American and European
markets, 3dMaxMedia will also be servicing the markets in Japan and
China. Singapore is to be the
regional hub to address the needs of the Asian market outside India. In addition to the proposed alliance with PentaMedia, 3dMaxMedia
also has a strategic tie-up in place with Hewlett-Packard for 3D animation
content creation, content distribution and transactions on the Net. At the press meet to announce the tie-up, Ganesh Ayyar, president,
Hewlett-Packard, said “HP and 3dMaxMedia will jointly address four main
areas: content creation technologies,
content, content delivery and commercial completion.” …to make 3D animated film: Hewlett-Packard, PentaMedia Graphics and 3dMaxMedia have announced plans to make a 90-minute 3D animation film ‘Starwave’. The movie will star digitally created yesteryear heroes – one each from the north and the south. The heroines will be live or digitally created. “We expect to complete this project in nine months and make it available through the traditional medium and the Net,” Srini Vasan, founder and president, 3dMaxMedia said.
