Steve Wood has been associated with emerging technology companies for the majority of his career, with broad experience in personal computers, wireless telecommunications, on-line services, and interactive television.

Wood began his career in 1976 as a software engineer and General Manager at Microsoft - the company's sixth employee. After four years at Microsoft, Wood joined Datapoint Corporation to manage the PC software organization. In 1985, he moved back to Seattle to rejoin Paul Allen and help start up Asymetrix Corp., serving in several executive roles including VP Marketing, VP Marketing and Development, VP Marketing and Sales, and VP Business Development. In 1991, Wood founded two new companies for Paul Allen: Interval Research, for which he served as Vice-Chairman; and StarWay Corporation, for which he was President
